Mariani is, of course, one of the world’s foremost practitioners of six-string-driven pop music, and he’s on fire on Apple of Life. Power pop and its adjacencies can sound old-fashioned, even quaint, in the twenty-first century, but when it’s in the hands of a master like Dom Mariani, it still shines brighter than the sun. –Michael Toland / THE BIG TAKEOVER MAGAZINE

Throughout Apple of Life, the emphasis is on the songwriting rather than the guitar playing. All of the guitar work is stellar, though not flashy — there are soaring harmonized melodies and superb rhythm parts, but no showoffish solos. At various times, other references would be The Cars, Big Star, Badfinger, Nick Lowe, and Marshall Crenshaw. Dom Mariani has crafted a real gem in Apple of Life, and it needs to be heard. – Jon Davis / Exposé

A pop revelation. Dom's latest track 'Breaking Point' is a standout, shimmering with the irresistible, hook-filled pleasures that define truly great pop music. – Klemen Breznikar / It’s Psychedelic Baby Magazine

A master of the jangly guitar-based melody, his ear for an indelible riff and catchy harmony is on full display on his second solo album. Another winner from one of Australia's greatest treasures. – Jeff Penczak / SHINDIG! (4 star review)

APPLE OF LIFE - Classic Rock Tracks Of The Week : There’s a whiff of The Shins’ sunny lo-fi vibe, but embellished with 60s-nodding harmonies and a lovely slide guitar line. It’s light and still full of warm depth. A groovy, poppy but nicely rocked up delight. – Polly Glass / CLASSIC ROCK

His pop songcraft is high level and the guitar playing is livelier than I expected. The title track will earworm its way into your head after just one listen; “Sad State of Affairs” is minor key with a bit of psychedelia, plenty of harmonies, and the right sprinkle of soloing; “Breaking Point” rides that New Wave line while “Jealous Love” leans country; and “Jangleland” wraps up the album of with all sorts of guitar. – Justin Steiner / SHOOFLYPIE

The melodies on the second half of the album vary stylistically from heavier rockers (“Breaking Point”) to sunny love songs (“Oh Angeline,”) and are performed with meticulous craftsmanship. Overall a highly recommended album. – POWER POPAHOLIC

Mariani's vocal abilities and tonality are so versatile and palatable; they were made to convey his chosen styles of music. Now, while Dom Mariani has been around for decades, his vocal performances always sound like the artist is 25 years old... very impressive. – TONE Scott / GOLDMINE

With its slide guitar, rich harmonies, and irresistibly catchy hooks, the song is a masterclass in Mariani’s signature brand of melodic power-pop. Following the bright jangle of his first single, ‘Jangleland,’ ‘Apple of Life’ takes things a step further with layered and hypnotic sound, yet effortlessly accessible. – IT'S PSYCHEDELIC BABY MAGAZINE

“Apple Of Life” : With its ascendant slide-guitar lead and sticky-sweet hook, it has all the hallmarks of a power-pop classic and should thrill fetishists of the genre. – MAGNET

This tune is positively grooving with the kind of cosmic twang and bright layered vocals that would make acts like the Byrds smile. There is a warmth that is exuded as the song flies along with a care-free mood as we see Mariani soaking up the sun and jamming out with his pals. — GLIDE

Sounding breezy with the close harmonies, pedal steel and bright acoustic guitars, sonically this is clearly a nod nod to the Byrds. Dom and the band take you on an audiophonic trip with this one, which is immediate and compelling and the only excuse you need to let go of your worries. – AMERICANA HIGHWAYS

Dom Mariani’s main job has been as frontman of garage rockers The Stems and Power Pop heroes DM3, and his current main activity is the blues-heavy outfit Datura4. But on ‘Jangleland’ he returns to his early love of the jingle-jangle rock of bands like The Byrds. Well, who wouldn’t? You may pick up a few references as you listen. – AMERICANA UK
